Choked drains cause inundate Mendhar
8/11/2016 10:31:33 PM
ET Report
Poonch, Aug 11: Failure of authorities to undertake required cleaning of drains has not only led the water-logging of sewage on roads but also create unhygienic conditions in various areas of the Mendhar tehasil in Poonch district just after slight rains.
The residents of mendhar lamented that most of the drains in the area have been choked due to extensive silting and casual approach of the concerned authorities.
"The choked drains apparently have created mess in day to day life. Even a slight drizzle causes water-logging and over flooding of sewage water in the area, they said.
Locals bemoaned that the inundated roads with sewage water not only hampers movement of locals particularly children, women and aged who were being ferried to main road in vehicles.
Chairman Mendhar Youth Club Advocate Nadeem Rafiq Hussain Khan said, "The problem is severe at main bazaar Mendhar town. "A network of drain pass through our area but due to choking of drains in absence of cleaning, foul and stinky smell has surrounds the locality. "We have many times requested the concerned authorities to undertake cleaning of the drains, however no action has been taken so far," Tariq Khan said.
Residents of Kapoor Mohalla, Qasim Nagar and some other localities too have hummed similar voices and complained of over flooding of sewage and rain water.
"The drains are completely choked in our area, local residents alleged, adding, "the rain water even at times enters into low lying residential areas."
An official with Tehasil administration admitted the problem and said some low-lying areas in Mendhar town including main Bazaar and Tehasil Chowk are facing problems of water-logging.
"The authorities do take all measures to de-water the areas, he said and added the authorities will also ensure de-silting of drains so as to counter the water-logging besides this the issue of enhancing of drains network will also be undertaken with higher authorities."
He however added that we also have to take into consideration that Mendhar receives heavy spell of rains in past over a month and it takes some time for rain water to get absorbed in ground water.
