Srinagar, Aug 11: Local teachers of Khanyar and its adjacent areas in order to save the future of children have started imparting education free of cost to the children of the neighborhood. Pertinent to mention schools were closed down following killing of Hizb commander Burhan lat month.
The initiative took off on Tuesday from four walls of a local marriage hall in collaboration by four local Masjid/Mohalla committees in the Khanyar area of old city. Some private school teachers of the area have taken up the task to teach students of the area. They say the students have shown keen interest in this initiative as more than 300 students joined the classes on first day. ''We are at home as we could not attended the classes after the situation abruptly turned volatile in Kashmir past month, we even missed our tuition classes as we could not move out due to stringent curfew restrictions, we are very thankful to local teachers for this initiative," Bisma Mehraj a Convent student told 'Early Times'.
She said that the student's education must not suffer due to prevailing tension in the valley and government too should ensure smooth movement of the students.
A teacher while talking to 'Early Times' said "we don't want the future of the children to be spoiled, the main objective of this initiative we have taken is that the children upto class 12th get coaching free of cost"
"We are apolitical having no affiliation with any political or separatist group, our aim is to provide education to children, we have witnessed difficult times since 1989, let separatists and politicians decide about Kashmir, we will do our own job," she said "On first day, some 350 students - right from nursery to class 12th -- joined the classes. This initiative has actually been started by four Mohalla committees of Khanyar and we are happy to be part of it and contribute towards a great cause to prevent students' education from getting ruined," the teacher added. She said the classes start from 10 am in the morning and close by 3 pm in the afternoon. The organizers and the teachers of this makeshift school said that the people from all over Kashmir must come out voluntarily to help students by providing them educational facilities in a similar way.
