Early Times Report

Pulwama, Aug 11: Despite threats and curfew, hundreds of unemployed youth on Thursday reached Deputy Commissioner's office to obtain forms for police recruitment policy recently announced by the government.
Eyewitness told Early Times that around 100 qualified aspirants mostly from far off areas queued up in Pulwama DC office to obtain forms for the post of Special Police Officer (SPO).
Aspirants reached DC Office early morning, official sources said.
"Don't click our pictures," most of the aspirants were spotted pleading before the media persons.
"Due to unemployment we are here to and are ready to be part of police department," an aspirant, without revealing his identity said. He claimed to have done master degree in science.
Most of the aspirants were carrying graduation and Post Graduation degrees.
"It is high time for poor to seek a government job these days as otherwise bureaucrats and politicians engage only those who grace their palms. We don't have money that is why we don't get jobs. This time we are hopefully authorities will carry out this recruitment rally in transparent manner," he added.
Asked whether they fear any kind of harassment from those youth who are frisking vehicles and enforcing shutdown on roads, they said, "One officer is more dangerous than a policeman. Can they (shutdown enforcers) stop children of affluent families from taking part in competitive examinations or filling up examination forms of Kashmir Administrative services?"
Unconfirmed reports said that some miscreants are harassing those unemployed youth who aspire to be part of police or any other force.
SP Pulwama, Rayees Ahmad assured possible help to aspirants. "So far we haven't received any complaint regarding harassment. We will surely act if such incident comes into our knowledge," he added.
Pertinently, state government has announced to engage SPOs at district level.
