Patwari lands in VOJ net

JAMMU, Aug 11: The patwari of halqa Sruinsar today landed in VOJ (Vigilance Organisation, Jammu) net while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a villager for attesting mutation of his land.
A complaint against patwari Mohammad Sharief was lodged with VOJ by one Narayan Singh, son of Major Singh of Surinsar, alleging therein that he was demanding a bribe for getting attested the mutation of his 1 kanal 1 marla of land at Surinsar. He claimed that he had purchased the land through proper sale deed.
Accordingly an FIR under section 5(2) of PC Act 2006 was registered against the patwari at VOJ police station. After completing the requisite legal formalities in presence of two independent witnesses, a VOJ team headed by DSP H L Pandita laid a trap and caught him red handed while demanding and accepting Rs 4,000 as bribe from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accusedpatwari in presence of independent witnesses.
VOJ had some time back arrested a naib-tehsildar and a girdawar while demanding and accepting the bribe amount.
