SVC orders removal of encroachments on state land at Sidhra | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 11: Taking a serious note of encroachments on state land at Sidhra in Jammu by the land mafia with the alleged connivance of some officials of Jammu Development Authority (JDA), the state vigilance commission (SVC) today directed JDA vice-chairman to take all necessary measures to remove the encroachments and submit action taken report. The commission also asked secretary of Housing and Urban Development Department (HUDD) to formulate a workable action plan for the removal of illegal encroachments and checking further encroachment on state land and submit detailed report to it before next date of hearing. Earlier, taking a cognizance of a complaint lodged by the inhabitants of Majeen Sidhra about large scale encroachments on state land at Sidhra allegedly by the land mafia in connivance and conspiracy of some officials of JDA, SVC had sought a report from JDA. The report obtained prima facie disclosed that state land bearing khasra Nos 11, 12, 14, 117, 119 and 15 was acquired by JDA in 1993 and subsequently the government allotted about 650 kanals to various government departments and private institutions including Batra Hospital, IMPA and security headquarter out of the said land. The report points out that irresponsible approach of JDA officials has led to the encroachment of state land by land grabbers from time to time. They have raised concrete structures on it and also sold it to others without having title of the land in their name. The report reveals that although the concerned authorities have tried many times to evict the encroachers and retrieve the land, but owing to non-serious approach of JDA officials towards land mafia, the encroachers again managed illegal possession of the state land. The negligence on the part JDA officials has caused heavy loss to the state exchequer and urgently requires government intervention to retrieve the land worth crores and prevent further encroachments. The proposed action plan would be submitted to SVC by the HUDD secretary by September 16, 2016. |
