Bike lifter held, 4 stolen bikes recovered

Jammu, Aug 11: In continuation to the operation the Anti Vehicle Theft and Recovery Team (AVTAR)-
AVTAR launched by SSP Jammu Dr Sunil Gupta, Gangyal Police today claimed to have achieved a major success with the arrest of a vehicle lifter/absconder and recovery of four stolen motor cycles on his disclosures.
"The accused has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar son of Bachan Lal of Ward No. 07 RS Pura," police said.
"Acting on specific information, a special naka headed by SHO Gangyal Inspector Aijaz wani was raised at Bandhu Rakh near Air Force Station, police spokesperson said.
"During search, one motor cyclist was signaled to stop but motorcyclist tried to dodge the police team, who however was nabbed after a hot chase near Ranjit College, he said.
Police said, "During the scrutiny of the document it was found that bike which accused was riding with Registration No JK21-2164 was stolen from Model Town Gangyal few days back." Police said, "The accused along with said bike during sustained interrogation confessed the theft of 03 more bikes bearing Registration No JK02S-3059 Passion Motor Cycle stolen from Gangyal Garden FIR No. 77/16 P/S Gangyal, Motor Cycle No JK02BC-1304 stolen from Agra Chak RS Pura, Motor Cycle Splendor bearing Engine No JAQ5ECE9F26714 Ch.No.MBLJQ5E9F26443 stolen from Ward No. 07, RS Pura which accordingly were recovered on his disclosures."
A total of four cases of Motor vehicle theft have been worked out with this recovery (02 FIRs' No.77/16 and 80/16 of PS Gangyal and 02 FIR's of P/S R S Pura.
"Pertinent to mention here that as the accused is a habitual vehicle lifter and is an absconder from Police Station RS Pura and Police Station Satwari, he said adding, "more recoveries are likely and cannot be ruled out."
Police said that arrest was made by the team headed by SHO Gangyal Inspector Aijaz Wani under the supervision of Shazaad Salaria, SP City South.
