Separatists use religious card to stay relevant

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 19: The separatists who have been resorting to Friday politics for instigating and unleashing anti-India propaganda are now playing the religious card in a desperate attempt to halt their sliding relevance.
Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has alleged that state government is interfering in the religious affairs of the people of the Valley.
He has equated the state government with an occupational force and accused it of 'declaring war against people."
"These are desperate measures, and in desperation the religious card is being played. Their relevance is being questioned now by the people of the Valley who were held to ransom by these separatists for the last four months. So not able to justify their doings they are now playing the religious card. But these are the same people who have been consistently accusing the Centre, especially the Modi government, of being a government of extremists," said a senior official, posted in the intelligence unit of the state police.
With the level of violence coming down, students are busy in their exams and ordinary people are concerned more about exchanging demonetised notes for their daily lives, the separatists have started playing a religious card.
"They are trying to create a fear that their religion is in danger. It's oft-repeated argument and has lost its relevance and it seems that like this phrase the separatists too have lost relevance. It's not a mere coincidence that they are using it now, when the people are questioning them," said the official.
The separatists were hoping that on Saturday the public discourse would be on 'religion is danger' rather than on the daily lives. But they were proved wrong.
Almost all the people who had come on the streets which were abuzz with the activity were questioning the relevance of the 'hartal' calendar. They questioned the logic and were also asking separatists how they will sustain, how their kids will go to schools and how they will earn their livelihood?
