From 'VIPs' to night guards, Valley teachers face tough time
11/19/2016 11:13:44 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 19: The Education Minister would not have imagined that his own officials would one day put him in such a great trouble and contradict the claims that he has been making in public.
In total contrast to what the minister has been stating, government teachers in the Valley have revealed that the government itself has reduced their status to mere 'night guards' of the government run schools.
The region that witnessed logjam, unrest and uncertainty for the period of more than four months witnessed attacks of arson on government schools with more than 30 institutions of learning being reduced to rubble by the trouble mongers.
Teachers have unanimously stated that the government, after the arsonists' attack, directed them to keep a vigil at the schools and guard them round the clock from any attack. Such a government move later was ridiculed by one and all in Jammu and Kashmir with questions being raised about government's such a 'bizarre' diktat to the teachers. The state authorities, pertinently, were claiming to accord a VIP status to the teaching fraternity in Jammu and Kashmir for its selfless courage and determination to enlighten state's Gen-X.
However, as government decision to reduce status of the teachers in Valley to mere night guards came under attack, the education minister shrugged off his shoulders- saying he never issued any such order. He claimed that teachers were never asked to guard the government schools from arsonists' attack.
Days after such a statement was made by the minister, teachers across Valley have claimed that the orders to guard schools came from none other than the government itself. They said that the Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) of various zones across Kashmir Valley issued a roaster in which teachers have been asked to guard the schools even during the late night hours.
Which teachers castigating the government policies have in unison stated that nowhere in the world is such a treatment being accorded to the teaching fraternity as is given them in JK. "We have been made Chowkidars and the orders have been issued by the government wherein we have been directed to remain deputed at the schools even during late night hours," teachers have written to the higher authorities in a representation.
Meanwhile, sources said that owning to the paucity of Chowkidars in the education department, the government couldn't depute them at schools that are coming under the attack. "The main reason behind teachers being made Chowkidars is that there are not many guards available with the department of education. The government has found it much easier to ask teachers to do Chowkidari jobs in Valley," sources divulged.
Meanwhile, the startling revelations coming from teachers have put the incumbent minister in serious trouble. His previous statement of denying any order has been contradicted by the teachers who have castigated such a government approach in which there status is under the cloud.
