Kishtwar, Nov 20: Tall claims made by the Bhartiya Janta Party (Youth) and Congress (Youth) over the establishment of helping desk at Banks in Kishtwar for helping the poor in changing the old Rs. 1000 & Rs. 500 currency after Modi government,s move of demonetization were proved only a photo ops as no one either from BJP or Congress party cell was established either inside JK Bank Kishtwar or State Bank of India as both these banks cater most of the customers in District Kishtwar along with other banks like HDFC, and Punjab National Bank.
While talking to "Early Times", one of the bank employee said that no help desk was established by either BJP or Congress in the bank and showed his surprise after seeing some photos circulated on Social media. The people informed the " Early Times" that few Congress youth leaders arrived at JK Bank Kishtwar few days back and click the photographers following which some BJP youth leaders visited next day and circulated similar massages on social media same day. They said that poor people are suffering due to demonetization as heavy rush is being witnessed inside and outside banks.
"I am poor labor class--- I work hard everyday to earn livelihood for my family--- but due to demonetization, I wasn't able to go for work since I have to change my old currency." Said a labor. He said that he was jobless since no body has money to pay him.
Another lady who came from Sigdi Chatroo said that his son was ill and she required money for medicine added that at Kishtwar she was told that her account was not updated on line and hence she can't withdraw any money till her account will be updated from Chatroo bank from where she open her account. Several people said that they are facing hard as due to non availability of Rs. 500 notes in the banks.
"Banks are giving only Rs. 2000 currency notes and it is difficult to get change in the market" said a dejected person who was wondering in the market for purchasing of vegetables. Several people termed the move of demonetization as right one, but added that its execution lacks proper implementation on ground which need to be looked into and laid stress for free flow of Rs. 500 new currency notes in banks and ATMs.
Meanwhile HDFC Bank at Kishtwar was recalibrated and people started getting new Rs. 2000 currency notes from the said ATM.
