| Resume operation of Aadhaar enrolment centres in JK' | | | SK Kaw

Jammu, Nov 20: Notwithstanding the tall claims of Government of India that Aadhaar is mandatory for centrally sponsored schemes in J&K state and to implement it the funds were available in plenty, yet the operations of Aadhaar have been suspended without any prior notice, sources said here today.
Sources said the Permanent Enrolment Centres (PECs) have been closed since April 1,2016,affecting badly the people who had to go for updation and demographic corrections in their Aadhaar cards, where as total operations of Aadhaar were stopped on September 30, 2016 in the entire state without any notice to mention reasons thereof, they added.
Since April 1 to September 30,2016 the field camps were functional to cover the left over populace but later on total operations were stopped in the state without complying any specific reasons.
Blaming the non seriousness of Registrar General of India, Electronic Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) nodel agency responsible for Aadhaar operations in state, stated that Aadhaar operations were abruptly suspended and the concerned authorities showed lackadaisical approach to grant any further extension leaving people in lurch who have to suffer at the hands of Govt apathy sources said
Aadhaar operations had been started in the state in the year 2013 and permanent enrolment centres were opened at tehsil level in all districts of state with an aim to reach out each and every person in length and breadth to enrol for Aadhaar.
Aadhaar has been made mandatory in availing benefits of all social welfare schemes besides banks, financial institutions and Govt as well as private offices for various purposes, sources said.
It is pertinent to mention here that ECIL has engaged several agencies to carry forward Aadhaar operations àll over the country . "lt is very sad that Aadhaar operations have been suspended midway in the state which clearly shows the non seriousness of Registrar General of India and Government who on one pertext said that Aadhaar was mandatory while on the other it stopped the operations without any prior notice or specific reason", he said a group of people who could not enroll themselves previously in Aadhaar for various reasons.
"Though the total operations of Aadhaar were stopped on September 30, yet we continued till November 15 voluntarily to benefit the general public", said an official of Aadhaar centre here..
By now as per reports,80 pc population has come under ambit of Aadhaar but most of the people rue of mistakes inscribed in the particulars of Aadhaar card such as date of birth, spells in names, address and so on .The updation and demographic corrections were rectified at PECs but now these centres stand closed, becomes cause of concern for the people sources explained.
As resentment is brewing there among masses for closure of Aadhaar centres in the state many social and political organizations besides senior citizen forums have appealed the concerned authorities to re consider the decision of closure of PECs and total suspension of Aadhaar operations in J&K state as there were many left overs yet to enrol in Aadhaar besides people deprived of updation and demographic corrections in their Aadhaar cards.. |
