Secret agents keeping eye on SHOs

Early Times Report

JAMMU, Nov 20: On the direction of senior officers, secret agents, especially officers of the ranks of DSPs and above, are nowadays keeping an eye on the SHOs of some police stations in Jammu district who face allegations of professional misconduct.
Posted in north, south, rural and headquarter areas, these SHOs are faced with the allegations of helping land mafia, property dealers in disputed properties, releasing accused after taking bribe from them and promoting other illegal activities in their jurisdictions, according to police sources.
Sources said secret inquiries against them were initiated, following repeated public complaints against all these SHOs. "Earlier, SHOs used to be called by officers to their offices to verify complaints against them or reprimand them, but this is not being done now. As soon as complaints against them are received, secret probes get initiated. To keep the whole affair a closely guarded secret, officers from south are deputed to enquire into the allegations against SHOs of north and vice versa. The reports are to be submitted to the DPO," sources informed.
"Only a senior police officer knows which officer is spying on which SHO. Despite that some influential SHOs come to know about the secret probes initiated against them, but they never come to know about the inquiry officers," sources said.
Sources said inquiry reports against some of the 'guilty' SHOs had come and they were likely to be attached with DPL in near future. With their attachments, some transfers were likely to be effected at the thana level, the sources added.
