NSF registers protest to DSW, seeks action against guilty | Disrespect shown to newspapers in Central University of Jammu | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 22: The students of Mass Communication & New Media Studies, Central University of Jammu (CUJ) strongly opposed the Department of Sociology and Social Work for showing disrespect to the several newspapers by laying them on main entrance during an event. They expressed that newspapers carry religious images, national symbols and national flag; and putting them under feet is a great disrespect not only to the profession of Journalism but to religious faith and nationalism. Later, a delegation of the CUJ unit of National Secular Forum (NSF) met Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof Devanand and handed over a written complaint in this regard. The delegation was led by CUJ Incharge Neeraj, President Tahir Qureshi, senior vice presidents Hazrat Ali and Rubina; press secretary Riaz, secretary Imruza, chairperson Shagun Gupta, vice presidents Natish, Sonali Verma and Simi Rain; and secretary Arti. They demanded stern action against the people at the helm of affairs in Department of Sociology and Social Work who were behind this act. It was said in the complaint that organizers of the event deliberately showed disrespect to the newspapers which are no lesser than books, a source of knowledge. "The students of Mass Communication and New Media Studies pursue Journalism as their profession and they felt outraged after seeing newspapers beneath the feet of people," the complaint further read. The Dean Students Welfare pacified the NSF activists and assured to look into the episode besides taking action against the guilty, if found any. |
