Kupwara, Nov 22: Terrorists martyred three soldiers and mutilated the body of one of the martyrs near Line of Control in Machil sector in Kupwara district, while two terrorists were shot dead by the security forces in north Kashmir's Bandipora district, officials and reports said on Tuesday.
A top army official said the terrorists resorted to indiscriminate firing near the LoC fence in Machil sector, and tried to intrude into this side but alert soldiers took them on and engaged them in a gunfight.
The official said that Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked firing along the LoC and tried to provide cover to the infiltrating terrorists. "Pakistani army resorted to heavy cross-border firing in Machil sector, in which we have lost our three Jawans among which the body of one the soldiers was mutilated," the army official said.
He said the army was giving befitting response to the Pakistani fire and the exchange of fire was going on till the last reports came in.
Meanwhile Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia told Early Times that, 3 soldiers were killed in action on LoC in Machil sector, body of one soldier was mutilated, retribution will be heavy for this cowardly act.
2 terrorists shot dead in Hajin

Two terrorists were killed in a gunfight at Bonikhan village of Hajin area in north Kashmir's Bandipora district this morning. A senior police official said: "Acting on specific information about the presence of 2-3 terrorists , the joint team of army's 13 RR, CRPF and SOG launched cordon at Bonikhan area of Hajin in wee hours of Tuesday. As the search operation was launched, the hiding terrorists fired upon the security force. The fire was retaliated triggering a gunfight," the official said.
The official said that there was a heavy exchange of fire from both the sides, the terrorists were asked to surrender but they refused.
In the gunfight two terrorists were killed, adding that the killed terrorists appeared to be foreigners and their identity is being ascertained, the official said. He said two AK-47 rifles, grenades, AK-47 rounds and magazines were also recovered from the encounter site.
However sources said that, the terrorists had taken shelter in an isolated house located in the orchards.
They said new currency notes of Rs 2000 were also recovered from the terrorists.
