Baramulla-Banihal rail service restored after 145 days 12/1/2016 10:14:36 PM Early Times Report Banihal, Dec 1: Train service between Baramulla and Banihal restored on Thursday for nearly about five months' suspension due unrest. The train service was suspend some five months ago after the unrest start in Kashmir Valley, the rail service connecting Banihal in Jammu with Baramulla in Kashmir resumed on Thursday, officials said. In the first instance only one train were played in this railway track and the train service resumed in Full operations were expected to commence within the next two-to-three days, the officials said. Local passengers and shopkeepers at Banihal Railway Station were looking happy after the restoration of train service which is suspended from past five months. The Northern Railway authorities suspended the service as a precautionary measure on July 9 following widespread protests over the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces. The railway track and railway property were damaged by protestors in the Valley during the last five months. According to railway officials they have loss an amount of Rs 4.5 crore due to suspension of train service from last five months. The train service between Banihal and Baramullah is very helpful and less expensive for students, patients, employes and for the general public who commute daily between Banihal and Kashmir valley. During the first day of restoration of train service a low rush of passengers were seen in the trains and it is expected that in coming days it will play in full swing as usual. Higher officers of railway were also reached in Banihal with train on its first day of trial with passengers after long five months suspension of rail service. Railway Station Banihal Chief Area Manager AK Jain said that on the first day of trail they played one train on this track and in coming within two to three days more trains will play between Banihal and Baramullah.
