Jammu, July 7: It sound strange but fact that the resident of Gujjar Basti along Jammu-Udhmapur rail link are forced to raise wall in front of their gates to prevent water from entering their houses, as main Nullah comes from Vegetable Mandi gets choked in the locality.
The Nullah remains choked all the time due to this residents have to suffer during all the seasons. "Just 200 meters away from the University Campus, the underdeveloped locality even has not black topped road, neither drains nor no other basic facilities", the residents said.
Khalid Hussai, Ch Ghulam Hassan, Mohd Rashid, Inayat Ali, Amir, Mohd Razak, Noor-ul-Bashir, Mohd Shakil, Zaheer, Rafi ans Naseema Bibi said that the civic body has also disowned them.
"Canal goes through this area are unsafe and deplorable condition, most of residents of this area own animals", they said and added their animal suffers injuries in the canal and some time even die due to suffocation if trapped in the canal.
Administration should take notice of our plights as basis civic amenities are missing here. "We are worst victim of the blocked Nullah it comes from Vegetable Mandi with huge filth of polythene and rotten vegetable and other wastage and dumped here after every rain", they said and added that they take up the matter on several occasion but the find no solution. "Even two time proposal for laying drain, but due to known reason it could not reach to its logical conclusion", they said.
The residents also said that they facing threat from bovine lifters. "During past five years atleast 50 bovine has been stolen from this area. However, we have filed complaint with Police station also but no use, as not a single bovine has been recovered yet", they said.
Nasreena Bibi of Gujjar Basti said that five bovines belongs to her has been stolen few days back, and she is running pillar to post to get recovered them. "A cow today returned back with injuries on his neck and remaining four animals are still untraceable yet. I have visited Kalakote today where recently a truck loaded with bovine caught by police and have visited several other places also", she said and added that during search of her missing animals she had spent more Rs 50,000/- till date.
Our livelihood fully reliant on our cattle, it is our traditional occupation for years, during past five years atleast 29 bovine belongs to us has been stolen", she said and added unfortunately despite cases being registered in Police not a single case has been workout. |
