Jammu, June 7: The contractual candidates engaged under academic arrangement in government degree colleges of Jammu have continued to face discrimination during Governor rule too, as despite twice directed by the Advisor (G) the Higher Education department paid no heed.
According to contractual lecturers engaged under academic arrangements in Jammu colleges, they have been demanding extension of their services till July 31 at par with Kashmir-based candidates along with change in guidelines on the engagement of candidates, which are allegedly favouring the Kashmir based candidates.
"We called on Advisor Khurshid Ganai on June 16 and raised these two demands. He accordingly directed the Higher Education department, but they paid no heed", the contractual lecturers said, adding that getting cold shoulder from them, they again called on Speaker of Legislative assembly and later to Advisor (G) on July 1 and once again he directed the department, but once again they refused to do anything.
They further claimed that the Higher Education department has been discriminating with the Jammu based candidates by denying them extension till July 31 at par with Kashmir based candidates.
"Though Higher Education department has been claiming that the services of Jammu based candidates are not required as academic session is not in motion but Kashmir based candidates have getting extensions for the last over one and half year", the candidates said, adding that an official in the department has been working against the interests of the Jammu based candidates by deliberately denying them extension.
The candidates further claimed that the in Jammu the counselling for the new session has been at its full swing and the Kashmir based candidates would get enough opportunity to get adjusted in Jammu based colleges as the counselling for Kashmir based colleges has been put on hold.
"Even if the guidelines for engagement would be amended after completion of counselling session in Jammu, it would ultimately benefit the Kashmir based candidates and Jammu based candidates will suffer", the alleged, adding that Governor administration must take cognizance of the matter to end up discrimination with the Jammu-based candidates", they said. |
