Private Schools "ridicule" CM's order; hold classes in icy winter..!
1/9/2013 1:18:55 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 8: Making mockery of the order of none other than Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the management of number of private schools continues to hold classes in prevailing severe cold.
In wake of severe cold conditions prevailing in the entire region for the past over one week, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had ordered closure of Government and private schools from January 7th till January 12th. Ironically, number of private schools, notwithstanding the Chief Minister's order directed the students to continue with their respective classes.
Sources revealed that "though the school students from Class I to Class V have been excluded from attending the routine classes but the students of Class VI till Class X have been asked to attend the classes from 9.30 am onwards." "Furthermore, in an attempt to dodge the officials of Chief Education Officers and Zonal Education Officers, the respective school managements have further instructed the students not come in school uniforms as the same will get identified," sources further confirmed to Early Times.
"Teachers have asked us to attend the classes. They said we would be given assignment during that time," said some of the students of a private school in Jammu district while pleading anonymity. Even the parents of the students do not want to come openly against the private school managements as they fear their step would lead to harassment to their children by the school authorities.
"See, one can feel the severe winter these days. It is not possible for elders to move out and work in such cold condition then one can imagine the plight of younger ones. The school managements are just focusing on their targets of getting good percentage in final examinations especially the one conducted by State Board of School Education so that in the next academic year they ensure maximum admissions in comparison to their rivals," shared some of the parents on the condition of anonymity.
Sources further disclosed that "besides a majority share from Jammu district, number of private schools is still holding classes in Samba, Kathua and Udhampur districts. While the concerned officials of Education Department have yet to awake from their deep slumber, the school children continue to face the harsh winter season in their respective season where there are no air-conditioners."
Despite repeated attempts, Chief Education Officer, Jammu as well as Director School Education, Jammu were not available for comments.
