Reasi, Ramban, Kishtwar poorest districts of J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 14: Four out of eight new districts created during the tenure of former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in the state have been ranked poorest districts in the state with BPL population ranging from 35 to 42 percent of total population. Reasi, Ramban and Kishtwar districts of Jammu region are the poorest districts of the state whereas Bandipora from Kashmir division also falls in top 10 poorest districts. This revelation made by the Economic survey report for the year 2012-13 has put a big question mark on the decision to carve these new districts out of erstwhile Udhampur and Doda districts. In Kashmir region, only one district out of four newly constituted districts falls in the list of poorest districts, indicating that generous funding has been provided to new districts of Kashmir where as those in Jammu region have been ignored. The revelation has also raised a question mark on the creation of new administrative units which have stirred major political storm in the state. Now, there are apprehensions that new administrative units may face the same destiny. The Omar Abdullah government has so far ignored Jammu region in near future, possibility of disparity with administrative units of Jammu region is high. |
