According to data presented in the Economic survey that was tabled in the house the previous day, growth in industrial sector has been estimated at 3.79 per cent for the year 2013-14 compared to 9.77 per cent for the year 2006-07. The survey further said that though the share of industry to State's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is 23.50 per cent as per advanced estimates for the year 2013-14 but it is constantly decreasing. Industry in the state has miserably failed to generate employment among the unemployed youth of his state despite several sops extended to it for the purpose as the graph of employment through industrialization is poor for the northern states of the country. It has decelerated from 29.06% in 2007-08 to current losing 5.56% share on the same base. Besides, its growth has also declined from 6.88% to 3.79% during this period. Average of last seven year puts the growth of industry below 3% (2.75%). Apart from this the share of industry in employment is very less especially in rural areas. For the rural areas, the share of employment through industrial sector has been recorded as only 84 persons out of 1000 whereas this indicator for urban Jammu and Kashmir is 227 as per the employment-unemployment report for the year 2009-10. |
