With ally like NC on its side, the fate of the Congress is sealed | Seditious agenda | | Neha JAMMU, Mar 15: The Congress, which is at the receiving end across the country, including Jammu and Kashmir, is contesting the scheduled general election in alliance with the National Conference (NC). This association of the Congress with the NC would further mar the electoral prospects of the former. The reason is the NC has announced that greater autonomy, revoking of AFSPA and demilitarization in its election manifesto. This was stated by NC additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal on Thursday. "Greater autonomy, revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), reducing footprints of Army...are a few catchphrases with which the NC will go to the people to seek votes for Lok Sabha elections scheduled to start from April 7," he said. "Clearing Government buildings and other civilian areas from the Army and above all pursuing with New Delhi to start meaningful talks with Pakistan to sort out the festering problem of Jammu and Kashmir" will also be the part of the party's manifesto, he also said. What Mustafa Kamaal said could be described as seditious agenda set by the NC for the scheduled elections. It is obvious that the NC, which is not contesting the Lok Sabha election in Jammu province, will campaign for the Congress in this region and seek votes from the people on the basis of its seditious manifesto. In other words, the NC leadership would use the opportunity to vitiate the socio-religious and political atmosphere in Jammu province where the people, cutting across religious and party lines, live in peace and harmony. Since the people of Jammu province, barring a few disgruntled elements here and there, are vehemently opposed to such pernicious and unsettling demands, they would hate to vote for the Congress, its ally, believing, and rightly so, that a vote for the Congress would be a vote for the seditious agenda of the NC. But neither the NC nor the Congress is that important for the country. They are simply political parties and virtually two sides of one and the same coin in the sense that both are pseudo-secular and essentially anti-democratic and corrupt. But what is disturbing is the seditious agenda of the NC that is hand-in-glove with the Congress and the vice-versa. The question is: Can the NC go beyond the constitutional confines and seek votes on the basis of its seditious agenda? A few days ago, the Election Commission of India told the political parties not to rake up issues which they could not address or hold out promises which they cannot fulfill. Since the NC has made it loud and clear that it would prepare ground during the period of election for semi-independence and demilitarization, it is imperative for the election authorities to take cognizance of the break-India and hate-Army agenda and act accordingly. It cannot allow any political party to preach sedition. |
