Jammu and Kashmir Police ferries lunch for working committee meeting of National Conference
Yet another violation of Model Code of Conduct

SRINAGAR, Mar 15: Misuse of the official machinery on the eve of elections has been a trend in the past and same happened today during the working committee meeting of National Conference held at the party headquarters at Nawai Subah.
Coming under the influence of the National Conference and its party leaders, Jammu and Kashmir Police used a vehicle for carrying Wazwan that was served to the party leaders, workers and activists who took part in the working committee meeting.
The usage of the police vehicle for ferrying Wazwan is a blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) that is in force in Jammu and Kashmir like other states of the country. The MCC has been invoked in view of the Lok Sabha elections that are commencing across the country from April 7.
Sources told Early Times that acting on the directions from the top brass of National Conference the authorities of Jammu and Kashmir Police pressed into service a vehicle that contained different varieties of Wazwan. The Wazwan was served to the participants of the meeting and as such a glaring violation took place with just few days remaining for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.
"The Jammu and Kashmir Police played perfect host by ferrying the lunch served to the participants of the working committee meeting of National Conference. Nobody knows who paid for the preparation of varieties served during the Wazwan. The same may have been sponsored by some Government departments with the possibility of Jammu and Kashmir Police not being ruled out," said sources.
Sources said that today's violation is yet another addition to the long list of violations carried out by coalition Government in the state. They said the office of Chief Electoral Officer of the state should take serious note of the violations so that a strong message is sent to the different political parties of the state.
The working committee meeting of National Conference was chaired by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who is also the working president of the party. Party president, Dr. Farooq Abdullah who was expected to chair the meeting did not attend the meeting for the reasons best known to him. His absence in today's meeting has given credence to the speculations that all is not well within National Conference.
"Dr. Farooq Abdullah pulled up the party legislators more so the Ministers for their laid back attitude while responding to the problems of the people after the recent snow fury in Kashmir valley. He expressed anguish over the fact that none of the party legislators excepting Mian Altaf Ahmad visited the respective constituencies to take stock of the situation arising out of the recent heavy snowfall," said sources.
Sources said that NC president is also worried that his son Omar has lost connection with the grass-root workers of the party and infact showed his unhappiness many times on this issue. Same views have also been aired by National Conference General Secretary, Sheikh Nazir Ahmad on many occasions in the past.
