Lower, marginal employees rue a raw deal from Govt | | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, Aug 10 : Lower rung employees of the state government are a demoralized and disgruntled lot as the packages announced by the Omar government for the employees have failed to include them. It is worth mentioning here that the government has done nothing to uplift the morale of the Aanganwari workers and helpers, who have been working over the decades under a government sponsored scheme. This poor lot continues to be the victim of the official negligence and have failed to get its share from the recently announced packages by the government. "The Aanganwari workers have a tough job to do in terms that they remain engaged throughout the year but enjoy no benefits when compared to the other employees. The Aanganwari workers feel the sense of alienation as they have been subjected to the highest degree of discrimination," said an Aanganwari worker from Srinagar, wishing not to be named. The Aanganwari worker is bound to render the services, whatever in nature. Be it the polling day or the pulse polio campaign, Aanganwari worker has to take part in these activities. If the worker or helper fails to comply, faces the threat of termination. But when it comes to compensation, even in terms of the honorarium, they are subjected to inconvenience. "Not to think about the perks and allowances, we are made to suffer even for the monthly honorarium. It is after a gap of three or four months or even more when the authorities drop some pennies into our bowl. We have no knowledge as to for which months the honorarium has been disbursed because the entries aren't made on the monthly basis," said another Aanganwari worker wishing anonymity while talking to Early Times. This Aanganwari worker while talking in length said that the services of many workers like her were utilized by the Social welfare department in the recently concluded parliamentary elections but they are yet to receive election duty charges which stand due to them. As per this worker, the department even hasn't paid to them for the duties which they rendered during the 2008 assembly elections. It is the general perception of the Aanganwari workers that the centers where they work haven't been given a facelift. Improper furniture and poor matting are the hallmarks of these centers. As per these workers, the ill attitude of the authorities towards the Aanganwari workers isn't going to serve the purposes of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS).
