It will be Vikramaditya vs Rana?
Battle for Nagrota
8/11/2014 1:07:50 AM

Rustam

JAMMU, Aug 10: The entry of Dr Karan Singh's elder son Vikramaditaya Singh into the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on August 8 at Jammu has created an interesting political situation, particularly in the Nagrota assembly constituency. Jugal Kishore Sharma of the BJP represented this constituency between October 2002 and May this year. Jugal Kishore Sharma (presently Member of Lok Sabha) defeated Dr Karan
Singh's younger son Ajatshatru Singh of the National Conference (presently MLC) and other candidates, including the Congress candidates, both in 2002 and 2008.
There are rumours that the PDP may field Vikramaditya from the Nagrota constituency in the upcoming assembly elections. And if these rumours in the political circles are to be believed, then it can be said that Ajatshatru would stop making efforts to obtain ticket from the party. In a way, the Vikramaditya's joining the PDP has cleared the decks for Devendra Singh Rana, provincial president, who had been visiting Nagrota constituency since 2009 and holding party and public meetings there at regular intervals. There were reports which had suggested that AJatshatru was not very pleased with Rana, as he was interested in testing political waters in the Nagrota constituency yet again. Rana, who enjoys very good relations with Omar Abdullah for many reasons, it is believed, had almost succeeded in his strategy calculated to keep Ajatshatru away from Nagrota, but Ajatshatru had not given up the hope. However, it will be interesting to see how things develop in the next few days. But one thing appears almost certain: Ajatshatru is out of the reckoning for the time being. And it's not a bad development for him considering the fact that the NC, like the Congress, has little or no chance to win Nagrota. Strong anti-Congress and anti-NC wave continue to sweep not just Kashmir and Ladakh, but also Jammu province.
