Ambiguity prevails over status of HC stay | Recruitment of Assistant Professors | | Akshay Azad
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 28: Bizarre it may sound but true that ambiguity is prevailing over the status of stay imposed by High Court on the recruitment of 1657 posts of Assistant Professors, as neither Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) nor Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education department knew the status of the stay so far. Sources informed Early Times that few days back, news about vacation of stay by Srinagar High Court was doing rounds among aspiring candidates and departments concerned. "We got news that High Court had vacated the stay and now only candidates having NET/SLET or Ph.D degree will be eligible for posts, but it is still unknown, whether the stay is vacated in Jammu wing or Srinagar wing", an official in Higher Education department pleading anonymity said. The official further said that the counsel of Higher Education department in the case, Mehraj-ud-Din had expired, so it was unknown whether stay has been vacated or not. Officials in JKPSC were also unaware of the matter and said that Higher Education department was the first respondent in the case, and they would only give information regarding the status of stay, but PSC had no knowledge so far regarding vacating of stay by High Court. Moreover, sources said that due to delay on part of counsels of Higher Education department there was inordinate delay in disposing off the case, causing distress among aspirants. Sources further said that the process of making recruitments would face more delay as JKPSC has been running headless for the last few months. "The Governor has reportedly rejected the names finalized by previous government so the appointments of Chairman and members will be made again", sources said, adding that the names for appointments in JKPSC would only be made after approval of cabinet. "There is no cleaity over government formation and once the government is formed, the proposal for appointments will depend on first cabinet meeting", sources said, adding that keeping in mind the developments, it was clear that the completion of process would take many months. Pertinently, nearly six months back, High Court Jammu wing had directed JKPSC not to make recruitments against 1287 posts of Assistant Professors, which were advertised as per first notification, in response to the petition filed by M.Phil candidates of Jammu division. Though the High Court (Jammu division) had not stayed the recruitment process but in response to petition filed by M.Phil candidates of Srinagar, the Srinagar division of High Court had stayed the recruitment process. Moreover the lecturers working in Higher Secondary Schools had also secured stay on the recruitment process. |
