BJP dipped to 10% low in Assembly after LS boom | | | Mishu Gupta
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 28: While Bhartiya Janta Party rode the Modi wave in Jammu and Kashmir and clinched 25 seats from Jammu showing up a courageous front, the ground reality otherwise shows a dip in the popularity of the party after its Lok Sabha's mandate to an astonishing 10% low. The 23% vote share in Jammu and Kashmir general elections is far less than what the party was able to garner in the Lok Sabha elections, obviously showing that the party has stooped low from its earlier performance. "It is only within the six months' time that the graph of the party has showed decline in the state after the Lok Sabha elections which is a straight hint that saffron magic is just superfluous with ground reality in Jammu and Kashmir putting up a different perspective of the party," said one of the senior BJP leader while talking to Early Times. The fact , however cannot be denied that while in Jammu and Kashmir Lok Sabha polls , BJP made an astonishing dent in the vote share by clinching 32.4 percent votes from Jammu and Ladakh to send three of its MP in the Lok Sabha when its home tally of MLAs was just 11 only after 2008 elections. By winning 32.4 percent of the votes cast, the BJP effectively became the single largest political party in J&K in terms of popular votes, ahead of the Congress (22.9 percent), PDP (20.5 percent) and National Conference (11.1 percent). In actual numbers, the BJP got 1.15 million votes, the Congress 8.15 lakh votes, the PDP 7.3 lakh votes and the NC just under four lakh votes. The surge can be very rightly attributed to Modi wave that generated the hype in LS elections that made the difference. While BJP won Jammu, Udhampur and Ladakh, PDP won Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla, in the contest. Almost negligible %age was gathered by the saffron party from Srinagar in LS elections, but on its home turf (Jammu) it proved to be the major beneficiary. In general assembly elections, again BJP put up a wondrous show .It clinched larger vote share than any other party in the state. It jumped 23%, just slightly over the PDP's 22.7%, the NC's 20.8% and the Congress share of 18%. That might suggest that the BJP has done quite well in terms of votes across the state, even if its seats are concentrated in the Jammu region. In this context, when the BJP top brass including its Organizing Secretary Ram Madhav who camped in valley trying to connect hard with the people in Srinagar, the difference that was seen turned out to be dip of nearly 10% of popularity of BJP in the state. The party's vote share in valley was a dismal 2.2% despite all the hype surrounding its efforts. Even in the Ladakh region, represented in the Lok Sabha by a BJP MP, the party turned out to be dampener Ram Madhav, whose services in Kashmir have been already termed as futile, as he turned out to be a major flop in the valley, has lost his credibility in the state for being a person of lesser significance whose connect with the people was not established in the course. |
