SKIMS closes doors on RTI activist | | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Jan 22: The SKIMS authorities have found a novel way of denying information under RTI Act by keeping the doors of the relevant departments closed during office hours. Uman Omar, a noted social activist of Kashmir who filed a RTI in Sheri-Kashmir-Institute -of-Medical-Sciences (SKIMS) to seek information about the number of posts created for the post of Registrar, number of people working presently on the same post and details about the extension given to Registrars of the institute till date etc was surprised to see offices of the top brass officials locked during office hours. "They were buying time. Only yesterday I received a call to visit the concerned section of SKIMS to receive information after paying document charges, today when I reached there at 3:25 p.m. I found the offices locked," he said. Omar then called on the Public Relations officer (PRO) of SKIMS at 3:35 pm who called concerned section on phone but was informed that all the office heads had left. Omar later filed an application number 292 in the office of the concerned Director but is not hopeful of any action. Dr Moomin in Control of SKIMS said that medical Superintendent of the institute, Dr Farooq who looks after these issues is on leave these days, in charge Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, Dr Ghulam Hassan has left the office and any other official can only respond to your questions during working hours only.
