First ever EDM on KPs tabled in UK Parliament, Members Express concern | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 22: A few Days after observing 25 years in exile, they found some hope in the motion moved in UK Parliament. According to national media reports, the Early Day Motion (EDM) was tabled by the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) of British Hindus, which was led by lawmaker Bob Blackman and supported by four other Members of the Parliament. According to details EDM tabled reads that 'this House commemorates with deep sadness the 25th anniversary of the attack in January 1990 by cross-border Islamic militants on the population of Jammu and Kashmir; expresses its condolences to the families and friends of all those who were killed, raped and injured in this massacre. EDM also while condemning the desecration of the holiest sites in Jammu and Kashmir, expressed concern for Kashmiries who had to flee and still await justice. According to reports EDMs tabled are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons, while as very few are actually debated which are a way for British MPs to draw attention to an event or cause. On this occasion one memorial event was also held at the House of Commons earlier this week, supported by the APPG of British Hindus and co-sponsored by Blackman from the Conservative party and Virendra Sharma from Labour to offer tribute to the martyrs of the forced exodus. Kashmiri Pandit Society terming the EDMs historical said that ' EDM 712 is historic as it highlights the Kashmiri Hindus plight for the first time ever ,all other EDMs on Kashmir are so far on the propaganda separatist agenda. The society had led a peace march in London on Sunday to "commemorate the Kashmiri Hindus Forced Exodus Day of 19.01.1990. "Kashmiri Hindu Pundits are living like refugees in their own country. Perhaps this kind of misery only Yazidis in Iraq are facing. This situation is not acceptable. I urge the Government of India to take all necessary steps to restore the dignity and the homes of Kashmiri Pandits." said Madhava Turumella, Hindu Scholar and vice-president Hindu Forum of Britain. As per details there are about 60,452 registered Kashmiri migrant families in India, about 38,119 registered Kashmiri migrant families are residing in Jammu and about 19,338 registered Kashmiri migrant families are living in Delhi and besides Jammu and Delhi, about 1,995 families are settled in other states. Pertinently on Janury 19, 2015 Migrant Kashmiri Pandits while commemorating their 25 years of long exile protested in Srinagar in demand of their permanent resettlement in Kashmir division and Special ordinance from the Governor to pass long pending Shrines/Temple Bill. Separatists pin hopes on Obama `Press India to settle Kashmir dispute'Jammu The sidelined and frustrated separatists are now pinning their hopes on the US president Barack Obama. They have appealed Obama to 'press'' India for 'resolution' of Kashmir dispute. The separatists have been made not only irrelevant but shown their place by the new Modi government. They were first publicly snubbed after the government decided to cancel foreign secretary level talks with the Pakistan, after Hurriyat leaders had a meeting with the Pakistan high commissioner. The strong action by the Modi, just after assuming office, was a clear message to the separatists that they have no role in the democratic set up. Hurriyat leaders cutting across party lines, from Geelani to Mirwaiz have been rendered irrelevant since then. They were more exposed during the floods and the unprecedented voter turnout in the assembly elections. The US has already clearly stated that it doesn't want to meddle in the internal affairs of the India. Obama is making second visit to the India in is presidential tenure, which is the first by any American president. It reflects the growing clout of the India in the US and also realisation by US that India is a strong nation. The appeal by the separatists is thus a desperate attempt to make them relevant and just for public consumption. The recent elections considered so far one of the free and fair in the Kashmir coupled with the high voter turnout has made world realised that while J&K is truly integral part of the India, it's the Pakistan and its agents which are fomenting trouble here. The Pakistan itself is docked by its home grown terrorists and is already on the radar of the US as it want its to end the terrorists and also ensure that terrorism is not used against India. The separatists are thus making desperate measure, though, the fact is that US will not even given a cursory look to their appeal. |
