BJP wants Govt in JK before Delhi polls | | | Muhammad Mukaram
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan: 22 : The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leadership is engaged in a secret dialogue with the PDP leaders over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir and will reach a conclusion before the Delhi polls as the saffron party wants the mandate they have got should not go waste. According to BJP sources, the party’s top brass despite being involved in the election campaign in Delhi, the party intends to form the stable government in JK. “We have a mandate and have a huge vote share. We don’t want this should go waste. Efforts are on to ensure a stable government is formed in JK,” said a BJP leader. Sources in the BJP said that the party chief Amit Shah has authorized party’s National Secretary Ram Madhav to strike a deal with PDP. “Madhav is in touch with the PDP leadership since December 23 and some issues like Article 370 and AFSPA have already been settled amid some reservations by the PDP leadership,” said sources. “On the rotational chief minister issue, the BJP is hell-bent to seek three years term given the nature of mandate the party has received from the Jammu region. The party is hopeful to strike a deal with PDP though it is in touch with NC as well.” BJP’s State Secretary (Organisation), Ashok Koul said that the party’s Central leadership is actively talking to both, PDP and NC over government formation. “One thing is clear; JK can’t have a government without BJP. We have a mandate and a huge vote share of almost 24 per cent, though we couldn’t manage seats from Kashmir and Ladakh,” Koul said. On whether the government would be formed after February 7, the day Delhi is going to polls, he said anything can happen by or before February 7. “There is no doubt that our leadership is busy with election campaign in Delhi, but talks are on over government formation and ice can break any time.” Senior BJP leader, Dr Nirmal Singh, said that party’s leadership is involved in hectic deliberations on the government formation. “We can’t comment much on the issue as the talks are going on at the higher level,” said Singh, who was in news for being BJP’s chief ministerial candidate along with MoS in Prime Minister’s office, Dr Jitendera Singh. BJP insiders revealed that party wants PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed to show some flexibility on the issue of government formation. “There has to be some compromises on the both sides. Why BJP should give concession after concessions,” they said. “Party leaders will intensify the talks with PDP after February 7, in a bid to strike a deal with PDP. BJP has not left a hope and will continue its efforts to tie a knot with PDP or NC.” |
