Pakistan ignores US warning | | | It seems that Pakistan has not paid any atten- tion to the US warning against any terrorist strike on India during the time President, Barack Obama, visited India. In fact the warning was dished out following reports that Pakistani Army and the ISI were planning to carry out strikes in some Indian cities, including Jammu and Kashmir during or before the arrival of Obama in New Delhi where he is scheduled to be the Chief guest during the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.Since Obama is to remain in India for three days Washington has had no other alternative but to tell Pakistan that there could be grave consequences if its Army and terrorists carried out strikes against India. However, this warning seems to have no impact on Islamabad and its Army.May be that Islamabad plans to remain silent and prevent terrorists from launching any attack on soft targets, including religious places and schools in India during the three days Obama is to remain in India Ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit next week, Pakistan has also beefed up its posts with more men on the 198-km-long international border in the Jammu region. Pakistan Rangers have also kept terrorists in civies in some selected houses in forward villages on their side of the border. The international border runs from Paharpur in Kathua to the Chicken Neck area of Akhnoor in Jammu district. Pakistan calls it a working boundary However, the BSF didn't see any Pakistan army movement on the other side of the divide. "Pakistan Rangers have definitely increased their manpower in their posts on their side of the international border. Pakistani posts that had two to four men earlier now have six or even more Rangers. Technical intelligence didn't suggest any Pakistan army movement on the other side so far,"As part of its plan of needling Indian forces on the border Pakistani Rangers violated the ceasefire by resorting to firing by small arms on Border Out Posts (BoPs) along the International Border in Jammu on Wednesday prompting the BSF to retaliate. The firing followed foiling of ingress bid by militants in the same area on Tuesday. On January 13, there was firing by Pakistani Rangers in Samba sector. Pakistan also resorted to firing of mortar shells and small arms along the IB in Hiranagar belt of Kathua district on January 11.On January 6, there was ceasefire violation by Pakistan Rangers along the IB in Kathua district. Reports have indicated that the Pakistani Rangers have concentrated on the IB for carving out a pssage for militants awaiting an opportunity for sneaking into Jammu region. This is the result of major portion of the LOC right from Poonch to Uri having got buried under deep snow. Finding that infiltration was well nigh a difficult exercise on the LOC the Pakistani troops have decided to resort to intermittent ceasefire violations so that militants could cross into Jammu area under the cover of fire. The BSF seems to be aware of the gameplan and hence have intensified patrolling. More than 1200 additional BSF soldiers have deployed on the IB and if there was need additional companies of troops could be deployed on the LOC for foiling infiltration bids. In short Pakistani troops and the Rangers were trying to create a situation on the LOC and on the IB in Jammu and Kashmir so that the Kashmir issue attracted the attention of Obama during his three-day visit to India. But if Pakistan and its forces nurse such ideas they are mistaken Obama is already aware of the menace of terror being exported from the soil of Pakistan which has been the one of the reasons for violence in the Indian subcontinent. Obama is visiting India to reframe the Indo-US trade transactions and assist India in promoting nuclear energy. He is not visiting India to mediate on Kashmir between New Delhi and Islamabad because Washington has already made it known that Kashmir is a bilateral problem which does not require third country or third-party mediation or intervention. Let Islamabad stop using its soil for exporting terror to India because Pakistan continues to face worst ever threat from terrorists. |
