MENDHAR, Jan 22 : A strong protest was today held in the town against the construction that is is going along the wall of the famous Hanuman temple here. In the unprecedented September rains, a portion of the Hanuman temple land was washed away due to the flooding of the rivulet that flows along it. PWD and Irrigation and Flood Control Department have taken up some repair work in the area. The work is being done only during the night time. Ex-sarpanch of Mendhar town and president of Hanuman Mandir Committee, Devinder Kumar Tandan and several other people held a demonstration in the town at about 6 pm, asking the authorities concerned to immediately stop the work. Tandan said the temple land be restored to them and a protection wall be raised to save the temple and the localities adjoining from floods in future. A deputation of the committee members later called on Mendhar SDM Romesh Kumar and submitted him a memorandum. Taking immediate action on the demand of committee members, he asked tehsildar and naib-tehsildar to the spot and examine it. Following an assurance from the SDM that the needful would be done, the committee members dispersed peacefully. |
