`Press India to settle Kashmir dispute' | Separatists pin hopes on Obama | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 22: The sidelined and frustrated separatists are now pinning their hopes on the US president Barack Obama. They have appealed Obama to 'press'' India for 'resolution' of Kashmir dispute. The separatists have been made not only irrelevant but shown their place by the new Modi government. They were first publicly snubbed after the government decided to cancel foreign secretary level talks with the Pakistan, after Hurriyat leaders had a meeting with the Pakistan high commissioner. The strong action by the Modi, just after assuming office, was a clear message to the separatists that they have no role in the democratic set up. Hurriyat leaders cutting across party lines, from Geelani to Mirwaiz have been rendered irrelevant since then. They were more exposed during the floods and the unprecedented voter turnout in the assembly elections. The US has already clearly stated that it doesn't want to meddle in the internal affairs of the India. Obama is making second visit to the India in its presidential tenure, which is the first by any American president. It reflects the growing clout of the India in the US and also realisation by US that India is a strong nation. The appeal by the separatists is thus a desperate attempt to make them relevant and just for public consumption. The recent elections considered so far one of the free and fair in the Kashmir coupled with the high voter turnout has made world realised that while J&K is truly integral part of the India, it's the Pakistan and its agents which are fomenting trouble here. The Pakistan itself is docked by its home grown terrorists and is already on the radar of the US as it want its to end the terrorists and also ensure that terrorism is not used against India. The separatists are thus making desperate measure, though, the fact is that US will not even given a cursory look to their appeal. |
