Despite fall in diesel prices, no change in fare | | | Shiv Dev Thakur
Early Times Report
Katra, Feb 15: The transport department of Jammu and Kashmir is once again in limelight as the people travelling to far flung areas as well as the residents of far areas are facing problems regarding excess fare charges by the bus operators as well as load carries. There has been no change in the fares even after fall of diesel prices. Sources rued with Early Times that the bus operators as well as the load carriers charge the same amount of money they used to charge earlier. They added that the locals have also reported the case to the transport department but nothing has been done in this regard. They said that not only overcharging, the bus operators have been found manhandling passengers protesting excessive charges. A local Mohinder Singh from Reasi told Early times that it is much expensive for all the long distance travelers to travel as those who used to travel daily need to spend more on bus fares. He again said, "Even the morning train is not running now a days and travelling by bus is un affordable for the daily wagers travelling to Jammu". A vegetable merchant said that the goods carriers also used to charge the same amount of money even after the reduction in the prices of diesel. Transport commissioner when contacted by Early Times said, "the same matter is in my knowledge and i have forwarded a letter to the Government for the reduction in the fares". She again said that the department is waiting for the approval by the government in this concern. |
