Rafibad Encounter: Two Pak based Laishker ultras eliminated, huge arms ammunition recovered | | | S.Tahir-Ul Haq

Baramulla, Feb 21: In a fierce encounter security forces eliminated two Pak based militants of Laishker-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit in Thakhgund village of Rafiabad area in Baramulla district of Kashmir on Saturday afternoon. A huge hauls of arms and ammunition including GPS was recovered from the encounter site while 'combing' operating was on in the target area. The slain militanst have been identified namely as as Abu Numan and Abu Saad both residents of Pakistan of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit. A senior police official told Early Times police that on a specific information regarding presence of terrorists in village Thake Gund, Rafiabad in the jurisdiction of Police Station Sopore, Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area. "The terrorists opened fire on the search party triggering an encounter, he added. "The fire fight between the two sides continued for several hours after which both neutralizing of two militants who later were identified associated with LeT outfit," the police official said. He said that the duo has been also involved in many terror related activities including IED blast near Watergam Rafiabad in which one army personal was injured. Meantime reliable sources informed Early Times that the duo reportedly was a part of group of eight militants who had infiltrated in September 2013 from Line of Control (LoC). "The duo was presently active in Lolab, Sogam, Kralgund, areas of district Kupwara and Dooru, Saidpora, Arampora, Thagund and Mundji areas of Sopore town," sources informed. "Apart from this, the duo was also involved in 'grenade lobbing' during Parliamentary Elections of 2014, sources said while adding, " presently they were trying to make LeT base in Sopore and besides had mischievous designs to gear up militant activities in Sopore and other parts of the district." Sources also added that two of their associates have been eliminated in an encounter in Saidpora area of Sopore in the month of January this year. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) North Kashmir, Gareeb Dass ,told Early Times that, "Two militants were killed in an encounter today at Thakhgund village of Rafiabad area in Baramulla district. "The militants were identified as Abu Numan and Abu Saad both residents of Pakistan of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit, Gareeb Dass said. Senior police official said, "02 Ak-47, 07 AK-47 magazines, 01 GPS, 01 Radio set, 02 pouch, Radio set Antenna, 01 watch and a compass were recovered from the encounter site." He said that the massive search operation were on in the target area, when the last reports came in. While appreciating the security forces, he said that the elimination of two foreign militants will prove a vital dent to the efforts of the terror mentor to revive the terror activities and will prove a long way in peace restoration process. |
