PDP holding detailed negotiations with BJP 'frustrates' NC | Cong kept Omar content with 'lollipop' | | Fazal Khan Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 21: The ousted Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and working President of the National Conference Omar Abdullah is making last ditch efforts to somehow prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from entering into an alliance to form the next government in the state. After maintaining silence for sometime Omar took to the twitter on Friday and accused the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed of indulging in a "sell out." "Dear Mufti Sahib, please don't say you won't "sell out" b'cause you've already done that by helping BJP in the Legislative Council elections," Omar tweeted. The PDP and BJP have been holding negotiations over government formation in JK for the past two months and they are trying to reach on consensus over various issues. Both the parties taking time to shape up the new dispensation in JK seems to have "perturbed" the former chief minister, who in 2008 without drafting any Common Minimum Programme (CMP) with Congress, entered into an alliance with the party and government was at place a few days after poll results were declared. The only deal which Omar struck with the Congress high command was that he should be given the Chief Minister's post for six years. He (Omar) felt no need to draft a CMP after the All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi agreed to Omar's demand. Immediately after meeting Sonia in New Delhi Omar announced that he would be the "King of Jammu and Kashmir" for six years and other issues would be sorted out with the Congress along with the passage of time. However, history stands testimony to the fact that NC and Congress during their six year rule failed to coordinate with each other and "agreed to disagree" on almost all the issues. Despite Congress being in power at the Centre Omar failed to get any of the issues raised by him sorted out by the people at the helm. Whenever state witnessed a difficult time from 2008 to 2014, he (Omar) rushed to Delhi with a hope that people at the helm would rescue him but every time he was given a "lollipop" to remain content with. An analyst while talking To Early Times said, "Omar should learn from Mufti the art of negotiation. The PDP patron showing no hurry to form the government has driven home a point that he is not power hungry and government formation is not only about Chief Minister's chair. If PDP and BJP agree to enter into an alliance it would be a stable government and all their issues would be sorted in the CMP which is being drafted well in advance." "Omar seems to have forgotten that he was a junior minister in the cabinet of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and National Conference was the first regional party in JK which joined hands with BJP. It's strange that Omar is blaming Mufti for indulging in a sell out by holding talks with the BJP, which emerged as the second largest party by bagging 25 seats in the recent Assembly polls," the analyst said, adding, "Omar is disrespecting the mandate given by the Jammu people." A politician was of the opinion that PDP holding detailed negotiations with BJP has "frustrated" Omar "As for him (Omar) forming and running a government was nothing more than a child's play," he said in a sarcastic tone. |
