Protests in Anantnag against blasphemous posters | | | Early Times Report
anantnag, Feb 21: Protests erupted in Achabal area of Anantnag on Saturday after blasphemous posters surfaced in the area of the district, eyewitness said. They said that the posters insulting Prophet Mohammad (SAW) were thrown out from a fast moving car which scattered along the road in Tool Roonipora village of Achabal. Hundreds of the residents of the area, after seeing the posters scattered on the roadside, took out a protest march towards Achabal town and clashed with the forces. Protesters raised pro-Islam slogans and demanded a through probe into this incident which according them has hurt the religious sentiments of the people. "Such posters have appeared earlier also. On the eve of festivals, verses of Holy Quran were found in the fire-crackers, so it seems to be a deliberate attempt by the miscreants to hurt the sentiments and feelings of Muslim community," locals, who demanded a fair probe into the blasphemous act, said. They said that the authorities have failed in curbing such unlawful activities. "Those behind such unlawful activities must be exposed and punished accordingly," they demanded. Moments after protesters started pelting stones on the government forces, they were baton-charged by the forces and chased away. In Tool Roonipora village of Achabal, where posters surfaced, a complete shutdown was observed against this incident. Meanwhile, senior officials of the district administration and police, including DC and SP Anantnag, visited the town and pacified the angry protesters. A senior Official told Early Times that police had taken cognizance of the incident and started investigation. |
