Keeping Lakhvi in jail for 30 days an eyewash | | | That the decision to keep the 2008 Mumbai mayhem mastermind, Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi in jail for another 30 days under public security order is treated in India as a mere eyewash to reduce the level of anger against his release by the High Court. Well New Delhi and other official agencies in India are not prepared to lower their guard and accordingly the Army, that is deployed on the LOC in Jammu and Kahsmir, and the BSF,guarding the International Border in Jammu have been asked to upgrade their security grid as reports suggest that the Army and the ISI plan to provide all possible assistance to militants, who have been brought on the launch pads across the border, for enaking into Jammu and Kashmir. Reports indicate that state and non-state actors that have been providing material, moral and diplomatic support to militants undergoing arms training in camps in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir and those operating in Jammu and Kashmir feel upset over the marked drop in the level of militancy related violence in the Indian border state. It is in this contgext that groups of militants were being helped in crossing the LOC and the IB for entgering into Jammu and Kashmir alongwith sophisticated weapons, high grade explosivesd and ammunition.. Reports do suggest that agencies across the border may step up violence in Jammu and Kahsmir to create added political and security instability in the border state. The level of violence had to be coupled with a wporld wide campaign for settling the Kashmir issue.and as part of the offensive being planned by Pakistan against India the release of Lakhvi is treated as one such event. Whatever decision it has taken by way of keeping Lakhvi in jail for another 30 days is nothing but a cosmetic exercise to satiate the world opinion including the one in India against the curt ruling. And as part of its diversionary tactics Pakistan detained Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind, for 30 more days under a public security order before he could be released from jail following a court directive to set him free, which evoked a strong protest from India. The Punjab government has issued the order of Lakhvi's detention under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for a period of 30 days. He will remain detained at the Adiala Jail where he is currently under custody in the Mumbai attack case.An "outraged" India had on Friday summoned Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi to lodge a strong protest against the Islamabad High Court order to release the LeT operations commander Lakhvi and said freeing him will pose a threat which "cannot be ignored. Already another top extremist Hafiz Saeed, who too is accused of having engineered the Mumbai attack,is a free man despite New Delhi having submitted sufficient evidence warranting severe punishment. In fact people like Lakhvi and Saeed do boost the morale of militants on both sides of the LOC and not only this. Their release and movement without restriction provide moral support to Separatists in the Kashmir valley who start telling their supporters that India has no guts to counter Pakistan which has been needling India for the last several decades. It will not be a surprise if the Pakistani troops carry out ceasefire violations on the LOC and on the IB.Though these ceasefire violations are meant to carve out a passage for militants who await crossing into Jammu and Kashmir these violations are also aimed at destabilizing peace in the state.By resorting repeated ceasefire violations through launching gun and mortar attacks on the civilian houses and border outposts the Pakistani troops aim at creaing political instability. Now that there is a feeling in the political circles in Pakistan that with Mufti Mohd.Sayeed heading a coalition Government possibilities for marked inprovement in political stability and security scenario have become bright.Hence agencies across the border feel upset over this development and consequently they want to create a situation which could lead to political and security instability. It is in this context that Indian troops and the BSF have been told to remain on the alert for foiling each and every ingress bids by the militants. |
