Mufti begins with bang; bright, honest officers to head PSC, SSRB | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 15: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has begun on a right note by choosing bright and honest officers to head two important institutions. He has delivered the message loud and clear. "Perform or perish," seems to be message that has been conveyed to one and all. Mufti has left no virtually no space for favourites and in complete contrast to what was being discussed in political as well as administrative circles chosen a lesser known administrative face of the administration, Lateef-uz-Zamaan Deva to head the all important Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and seniormost KAS officer Dev Lata Sharma to overhaul Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection and Recruitment Board (JKSSRB). Both the officers are known for their honesty and integrity. New PSC Chairman Lateef-uz-Zamaan Deva, is widely known and respected for his honesty, straightforwardness and integrity. He has been tasked with correcting all the wrongs done in PSC besides ensuring that merit becomes the sole criterion for selecting individuals for manning various administrative positions in the state. Foresight of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed reflects from the fact that despite being son of prominent National Conference stalwart late Abdul Salam Deva, he was chosen to head PSC. Deva remained a low key officer during the erstwhile NC-Congress regime and has now been bestowed with a critical position by the new dispensation only because of his clean track record. It needs to be mentioned here that Governor N.N.Vohra had overturned the panel of the nominees recommended by the erstwhile NC-Congress coalition government but also issued a detailed press release stating therein the criteria for choosing members as well as chairman of the PSC. PDP-BJP government also recommended names of ex-Registrar Prof. Reshi Dogra, prominent academicians Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Prof. Indu Kilam, retired IAS officer G.R Bhagat and retired KAS officer Munshi Muzaffar Hussain. All the four members have had excellent track records in their respective fields. Besides, choosing members and Chairman for the PSC, state government transferred and posted seniormost KAS officer Dev Lata Sharma as Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection and Recruitment Board. An officer of impeccable integrity, Dev Lata Sharma was working in the Chief Minister's secretariat. She was chosen to head the all important institution after several of the lists which were released by the JKSSRB got stayed in various courts. Sharma had faced worst time during the erstwhile NC-0CIongress coalition government. She was posted as Director School Education and within a month's time shifted out because she had refused to bow to the dictates of the then Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand's notoriously known Forest guard turned Additional PRO Kewal Krishan Sharma. On being asked, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh said "We have made it clear that no non-sense would be tolerated. Merit and honesty are the only criterions for selecting people for various positions. We will not tolerate corrupt and dishonest people." He added that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed is very particular about sending a message across that the PDP-BJP govt has come to create history and bring the two regions together. "We have selected best people to take care of PSC and the SSRB. No favouritism and no discrimination is our mantra," added Singh. |
