Deva's appointment as PSC chairman an expedient step by Mufti Govt | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 15: Finally, J&K's most crucial and prestigious body Public Service Commission will get set into functional mode after months of it remaining dysfunctional, thanks to expedient step taken by the new coalition government led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who announced its chairman and other members formally today. A few months back when the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sent a panel of names to Governor NN Vohra for the highest appointing body to select one for the post of Chairman, the latter rejected entire panel and kept the matter pending apparently for want of appropriate choice . AS Deva is the bureaucrat who has been named for this coveted post by the Mufti government which apart from having unanimity of his own cabinet has been consented by the Governor too. Sources said when the ex Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had recommended a panel having some high profiled people in the list, the names did not go well for one or the other reason and therefore could not find approval till date. Sources said the Governor wanted persons of integrity, honest and upright people on board as far as this Commission is concerned. Pertinently, Omar Abdullah had also recommended the name of a senior and high profiled administrative officer Khurshid Ahmad Ganai as chairman of Public Service Commission. But his name too could not find approval , even though he is considered to be experienced officer who means business in running affairs with regard to his assignments given to him. However, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's choice in AS Deva is surprising for many, if not unexpected. It is on expected lines because Deva is known in administrative as well as political circles as an honest and upright person which is perhaps why it got nod from all quarters. It is too widely known to merit a mention again that PSC chairman always remains under political pressure from various quarters to accommodate their kin for various posts for which it conducts exams and interviews . During Omar Abdhullah regime, PSC for one or the other reason remained mired in controversies which dented its credibility to the hilt. |
