Dr Pampori, others couldn't muster courage to take on Lal Singh | Hats off to Dr Gurmeet Kour | | Fazal Khan Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 17: Many doctors who were reprimanded by the Health Minister Chaudary Lal Singh failed to muster courage to take on the minister but a lady doctor, Gurmeet Kour, who was humiliated for not wearing an apron by the Health Minister Chaurdary Lal Singh, despite being a lady has shown the guts to take on the powerful minister. Dr Gurmeet Kour is not the only doctor who faced humiliation at the hands of the Health Minister. Many doctors, including the Principal of the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar Dr Rafiq Pampori, had to face the wrath of the minister but most doctors kept quiet allowing minister to get away with his dictatorial approach. One needs to appreciate Dr Gurmeet for coming forward and raising her voice against the alleged misbehavior of the "powerful minister" who after realizing that Congress is a sinking ship jumped from it and joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). He rode on Modi wave to win the assembly elections. Lal Singh, who is still considered to be an outsider in the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), wanted to be a deputy chief minister and he lobbied hard for the post but couldn't manage to get it. Soon after he was sworn in as Health Minister he went after doctors and left no chance to humiliate them and established his writ. Dr Gurmeet Kour was one of the victims who came in line of fire but she couldn't bear the insult she faced and she decided to raise her voice, while as senior doctors like Dr Rafiq Pampori, maintained silence over they facing humiliation. There were reports that Dr Pampori tendered his resignation after Lal Singh humiliated him. Insiders told Early Times that Dr Pampori after facing the humiliation made it public that he would tender his resignation just to built pressure on his boss. "Dr Pampori had managed to get a three year extension just a few days before he was humiliated by the minister. He was in no mood to resign, and after building the pressure on Lal Singh, Dr Pampori brushed aside the matter," said a source. A day after Dr Pampori was humiliated by the minister GMC students in Srinagar staged a protest demanding apology from the minister for misbehaving with their principal, but on the very next day situation became normal and students were asked by the college authorities to carry on with their studies. Dr Gurmeet Kour too could have dismissed the incident about Minister humiliating her but she decided to fight and approached the Police to file a complaint, but Police refused to entertain her complaint claiming that it had no ground. None of the Jammu based politicians, including that of Congress and National Conference, came forward to condemn the alleged misbehavior of Lal Singh with a senior doctor. Full points need to be given to Dr Gurmeet Kour for fighting the battle for dignity and respect. Had the doctors, like Dr Rafiq Pampori, joined her it would have compelled the Health Minister Chaudary Lal Singh to tender an apology but unfortunately many doctors did not dare to take cajoles with the Health Minister. Dr Gurmeet Kour has already won half of the battle. Since the day she raised the banner of revolt there are no reports about Health Minister misbehaving with any of the doctors and the credit for the minister changing his ways needs to go to Dr Gurmeet Kour who has led from the front. |
