BJP plays second fiddle to PDP in LA | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 1: BJP even with almost equal seats is playing second fiddle to the BJP in the governance. The BJP ministers, baring just a one or two, are not able to make either their presence in the House nor or they have been able to show governance skill. The most notable absence and disappointment has so far been the performance of the deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh. Nirmal Singh, the most important leader of the party in the legislative scheme of things, has not been able to showcase that he is though equal to the chief minister. Except on one or two occasion, the Dy CM has not made any mark in the House. Most of the time, he is absent. Even on the contentious issue of taking back the power projects, it was left to the PDP to take on the NC and Congress on their protest. The first session of the Assembly was an opportunity to the BJP leadership that they are better in the governance than the Congress and can take on the opposition with facts and conviction. The BJP could also establish its credentials that the party is not 'anti-muslim' as it is perceived to be but rather hard on anti-national forces though sensitive to regional aspirations across the State which could turn around the things with effective governance. The deputy chief minister could have acted in an effective manner especially in the absence of the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. The Dy CM could have countered the allegations leveled against his department which were given a spin by the NC that the BJP is anti-Kashmir. In his absence, another BJP minister Bali Bhagat tried to make an intervention but he was far from convincing the opposition. It was left to the leaders from the Kashmir to protest, intervene and then make pacifying notes. The BJP has already given the CM and important home and finance department and even tourism to the PDP. It could have projected itself as a natural party of governance and taken a claim on one of these departments by showing legislative skills and making a point with the Central leadership and then with the t the chief minister. But, as of now the government is run by the CM, education minister Naeem Akhtar and to an extent by the finance minister Haseeb Drabu. |
