Protest held in Central Hall, say Ramzan used abusive language | Marshals pour out anger against LA Secretary | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 1: In what is being seen as the incident of its first kind, the Central Hall of the J&K Assembly witnessed a protest on different, rather apolitical lines. Neither the members of opposition nor any MLA, instead it were the Marshals along with the watch and ward staff who gave vent to their anger and resentment for what they alleged misbehaviour by Secretary of the Assembly Mohammad Ramzan with one of their colleagues. The Marshals who suspended their work in the middle of proceedings of the House alleged that the Secretary used abusive language against them following which they went on strike and held protest demonstration in the Central hall. While the Central Hall saw some flurry of activity on account of this development, some of the leaders from the ruling alliance tried to pacify the agitating watch and ward staff who suspended work for quite some time. The protesting Marshals alleged that the Assembly Secretary misbehaved with them and used abusive language, which they said was unwarranted and unacceptable. Later, they sought the attention of the Speaker Kavinder Gupta in the matter and submitted a written complaint to him seeking probe into it and justice with the hurt staff. Even as the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Syed Basharat Bukhari who was also present in the Chamber of Speaker assured the staff that the matter will be looked into and that marshals as well as watch and ward staff would be treated well in future, it pacified anger of the agitating staff. However, while speaking to media as to what led to swift developments that forced them to strike the work, they said the anger and resentment on many accounts was brewing up within the staff against the Secretary . It is pertinent to mention that there are allegations galore against the Speaker that he has been giving special treatment to a couple of politically well connected marshals and allegedly exempting them from wearing uniforms which is a must at least while the session is on. Some of the staff members even alleged that one of the marshal who is a kin of senior Congress leader and appointed so against this post due to this connection has not been attending duties for a long time but the authorities at the helm do not have courage to take action against the erring marshall for fear of backlash from the political leader. Some of the angry marshalls also alleged that there are some staff members in their category who have been appointed on the recommendation of ministers in the previous NC-Congress regime who also take liberties in not attending their duties regularly despite taking full salaries and perks. Pertinent to mention is the fact that one such politically connected staff member in watch and ward staff happens to be the son of controversial PRO of ex Deputy Chief Minister Kewal Krishan Sharma who was appointed during previous coalition regime. What has aggravated the anger of agitating staff is the oft repeated question they have been asking as to why the authorities are giving special treatment to some politically connected staffers in their category and some are treated shabbily. |
