"Power supply deficit to be bridged" | Coalition for tapping maximum hydro-electric potential of state: Hamid | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 20: Chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's endeavour in getting bottlenecks cleared in Ratle and Sawalakote Hydroelectric Projects besides completion of works on Baglihar Stage-II hydroelectric project are sure to make Jammu and Kashmir State self sufficient in power generation. These projects once commissioned will not only help us meet our energy requirements but will also help our industries in a big way. This was stated by People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader Abdul Hamid Choudhary who added that our state is the potential regions for generation of power through Hydro electric rotor. River Indus and its tributaries, Jhelum and its tributaries, Chenab and its tributaries as well as river Tawi, he added are important river basins having large potential of power generations in Jammu and Kashmir which is tapped fully will end power deficit. State is deficit in power supply and even for its own requirement around 70% of power is imported / purchase from outside sources. He said that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has a vision for our state which needs to be understood and accordingly implemented on ground to make us self-reliant by all means. On account of power generation alone, the state after completion of these projects would get enhanced energy of additional 250 MW which would be a great achievement. Choudhary Hamid said that chief minister Mufti Mohamamd Sayeed, unlike past is not in favour of stagnation of development projects aimed at making state self reliant. He intends to end any stalemate with those companies who have been entrusted with the task of mega projects but had abandoned the same midway. Unlike previous government he wants to set the development process rolling for the larger benefit of people of Jammu and Kashmir State. The PDP leader said that people will have to cooperate with government for which there must be reduction in transmission and distribution losses after which the state would get sufficient electricity for its development. Had the previous government sincere in meeting energy requirements of all three regions of the state, it would not have allowed the private companies to abandon works on most vital projects of the state. Now that chief minister has taken up the matter and asked state officials to end stalemate if any with the companies, there sure is a silver lining visible which in days to come would be restarted these vital projects and simultaneously completed strenuously. This added power generation would help run our industries and also pave way for arrival of mega industries which in turn will generate ample employment avenues, he added. |
