| Uphill task for PDP-BJP govt: to clean up mess left by previous regime | | |

Jammu, Apr 20: As the BJP ministers have begun sitting in the party headquarters to listen to public grievances and problems, they are faced with a catch -22 situation with majority of people coming with a common grumble and gripe to which BJP as ally in the present coalition has no solution nor would it cross the brief of the government's policy. The issue of attachments which has come as a heavy 'baggage' from the previous NC-Congress regime is casting its shadow on the working of the PDP-BJP government, with latter bearing major brunt in terms of public wishing 'status quo' on it.
Sources said for the last few days BJP headquarters in Jammu is witnessing huge rush apparently after central leadership directed the ministers to make themselves available at least once a week for the cause of addressing public grievances. The ministers have followed the order but they are finding themselves in a dilemma of not being able to offer a solution to most of the people are approaching them with. Sources said people including men and women who are coming in hordes to BJP office more than any problem pertaining to their areas or localities are coming to seek redressal of what can be seen as their personal problems. Most of the people are seeking reversal of the orders on attachments and want to continue with their postings in and around Jammu, an arrangement which the previous government had conveniently allowed for years mostly in Education and Health Department at the cost of institutions in far flung areas.
Sources said as the PDP-BJP government recently ordered cancellation of all such attachments, people have started using political pressures and influence in power corridors to continue with attachments in respective areas for their won convenience, no matter they are coming up different excuses to justify what they plead for. With BJP having started system of listening to public grievances in party offices, its ministers are facing pressure from various quarters as also from the applicants with this common problem, sources said adding that even though ministers are simply raising up hands on this issue, political pressures too is mounting for PDP too in the civil Secretariat and privately on this issue. However, the government is firm in not yielding to any pressure and it has issued instructions to all that the policy and order on attachments cannot be reversed or made flexible for any department, sources further said. |
