JAMMU, Apr 20 : Proposed installation of the bust of Babu Parmanand at Janipur Chowk has been entangled in the lackadaisical approaches of the concerned authorities for a long time now.
The Jammu Development Authority, following request made by Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Akademy, had ordered making of the Statue of Babu Parmanand, the Dalit leader who served the people of the state in various capacities.
The order for making the statue was given to celebrated local sculptor Ravinder Singh Jamwal of Birpur, which has since been made and is ready to be installed at its designated place.
The Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Akademy J&K had also requested the previous government to name Road opposite Police Station Janipur as 'Babu Parmanand Chowk' to keep memories of late Babu Parmanand fresh in the minds of people of the state for his lifelong service.
The said chowk is adjacent to the HQ of Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Akademy established by Babu Ji in 1994, the inauguration of which was done by the then Governor J&K KVK Rao PVSM former Indian Army Chief On 14-04-1994. |
