Jammu, Apr 20 : In frenzied incident a 25-year-old youth a trader was allegedly beaten to death by players of a rival team following a dispute during a "friendly cricket match" at Akhnoor town. Police have registered case in this regard and have arrested two accused. Police sources said, "The arrested have been identified as Bobby and Sunny who also had received injuries in the scuffle." "Some dispute broke out between two teams during a cricket match held in Akhnoor today which took ugly turn and resulted into a scuffle," police sources said. They said that deceased has been identified namely as Rakesh Kumar was among the three players who sustained critical injuries in the scuffle and were referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu for treatment, where Rakesh succumbed to his fatal injuries. Police sources said that a case has been registered in the Police Station in Akhnoor and two of the accused have been nabbed while further investigations are on. Sharing details, sources said, "Acting on the information team led by SHO Akhnoor under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Naresh Singh and SP rural Rajiv Pandey raided a place at Katra and arrested two of the accused identified as Bobby and Sunny who also received injuries in the scuffle." Meanwhile, family members of the deceased held a protest and blocked Jammu-Poonch highway for several hours as they demanded action against the accused. Later the protest was called off when senior police and civil administration officers assured them of strict action against the accused. |
