Jammu, Apr 20 : The IVth Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship for boys and girls shall be conducted by Mountaineering Association of J&K at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here from May 20. About 200 climbers from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand besides host J&K are expected to participate in this two-day event. "Since it is a junior championship, only those climbers born in 1999, 2000 and after are eligible to compete in the competitions which shall be conducted both in Lead and Speed climbing. The competition shall be conducted strictly as per IFSC rules and only fresh international standard climbing equipment shall be used," general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria said. The championship carries a total prize money of Rs 30000 which shall be distributed equally between boys and girls. Almost all the prominent North Zone climbers including those medal winners at the national level are likely to participate in this competition. The J&K challenge shall be spearheaded by Mrityunjay Sharma, a national bronze medallist and the team with very talented climbers including Shivani Charak, Abhishek Singh, Aman Dogra, Shilpa and Nitya Sharma is likely to give a creditable performance. Whereas the specialized equipment is to be arranged by Mountaineering Association of J&K, the Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee shall provide adequate technical support and a few officials including the president of jury, the chief route setter, judges and belayers. The Chairman IMF North Zone Committee, S Bhattacharjee has also confirmed his availability during the competition. The Association has already formed committees for making elaborate boarding, lodging and transport arrangements for the comfortable stay of the participants and officials and has also arranged local sight seeing to make it really a memorable event. The championship is being organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K under the aegis of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. |
