After heavy snowfall high alert sounded in Kargil, schools to remain closed | | | Early Times Report
SHOTOPA/KARGIL, Apr 20: Administration has issued alert to peoples living and moving along avalanche prone to restrict their movement in Kargil following Met department's forecasted about heavy rain and thunderstorm during the next 24 hours while area is already experiencing heavy snowfall. Meantime Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil has ordered all schools to remain closed in view of the heavy snowfall as directed by the Executive Councilor Education. "Normal life disturbed due to heavy snowfall which damaged Crops, Apricot, willow and Electricity pole and wires as from the last 17 hours Kargil is experiencing Rain and Snowfall resulting into rapid drop in the Temperature, official added. Most of the areas around Kargil town are without electricity as per report received 1.2 feet snowfall has been recorded at Menamarg, Drass and Zanskar, and Rangdum recorded 2 feet snowfall. This snowfall has hampered and stopped the snow clearance work on Kargil Zanskar Road and the widening work on Kargil Srinagar road due to which the opening of these roads will be delayed. Meanwhile The Jammu-Leh Indian Airlines Flight has been cancelled and the Courier Service of Indian Air Force is also not operating due to which thousands of passengers were stranded at Jammu and Srinagar. There are reports of shooting stone incident near Kabadi Nallah in Kargil town while report of avalanche or flashfloods due to snow and rainfall has been reported so far. |
