Encounter starts in Shopian, 2 injured | HM top commander Waseem Malla, Sadam trapped in an ongoing encounter | | Srinagar, May 19: Two army men were injured after a fierce gun battle raged between militants and the joint team of army and police at Heff Shirmal in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday evening. Official sources told that acting on a specific information about the presence of some militants at Lonepora village in Heff Shirmal area of the district, army's 55 RR and SOG cordoned off the whole area. "As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired few warning shots near the suspected spot, the militants hiding in the area tried to break the cordoned. However, the militants were later engaged in a gun battle which is going on in the area, they said. "Two army men were injured in the incident and were immediately evacuated to the hospital for treatment", they said. According to sources HM top commander Waseem Malla and Sadam trapped in an ongoing encounter. When reports last came in, the exchange of fire was going on. |
