Nirmal, Sukhnandan motivated CM to review stand on Tawi Lake: Sham | High Court Meet should rattle BJP | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 19: The Jammu & Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA), Jammu, today held an all-party meeting to decide the future course of action to force the anti-Jammu authorities in the state and at the centre to reverse their vindictive decision and establish the sanctioned AIIMS in Jammu as promised by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on the floor of the Lok Sabha during his budget speech on February 28. It was a very largely attended meeting in which all those who matter in Jammu, barring the BJP, took part. The hall was over-flowing or packed to its capacity and the meeting was chaired by the Bar association president. All of them authorized the JKHCBA to chalk out the future course of action and assured the Bar association their "fullest possible support". Concluding the meeting, the Bar Association president announced that "he would set up coordination committee within three days and hold its meeting the coming Saturday where the future course of action will be announced". All those who spoke during the meeting, which could be described as the first meeting against the BJP, used very strong words against the powers-that-be in the state and the centre. They were highly critical of the BJP. Many advocated separation of Jammu from Kashmir. Some vouched for an adequately empowered regional council for Jammu. Significantly, some senior BJP leaders were also present in the meeting and they also extended their full support to the Bar Association. They and others said that the people of Jammu province "have been left with no option but to prepare themselves for a final assault and clinch the Jammu issue once and for all". However, it was former Congress Minister Sham Lal Sharma who made a startling revelation on the circumstances under which the Chief Minister announced in Jammu on March 15 that the ongoing Tawi Artificial Lake project was "technically and economically not viable". He disclosed that he had a discussion with some "important person" in the government about the issue, who "informed him that it was at the behest of BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh and another BJP leader and PHE Minister Sukhnandan Choudhary that the Chief Minister made the statement on the Tawi Lake that it could be shelved". He claimed that "whatever he said he said it with full responsibility and that it was a statement of fact". The statement of Sham Lal Sharma must rattle the BJP, which is already under sharp attack. The BJP has to explain its position and come clean. It would be in its interest. The BJP cannot conduct itself in the manner in which had conducted thus far to disappoint Jammu and appease and pamper Kashmir. |
