Waiting for "Ache Din" for last one year
5/19/2015 11:52:23 PM
If people in India continue to wait for "Ache Din"(good days),the latest in crease in the prices of petrol and diesel seems to have added to the discomfort of people though decrease or increase in prices of fuel is linked to the international rates of crude oil.Whatever may be the figures being dished out, from time to time,by the Government in support of its contention that prices of foodgrains and other essential commodities have declined the real story in the market is somewhat different. There may have been sharp decline in the prices of a few vegetables the price level of other vegetables, fruits, foodgrains, edible oil, sugar and medicines continue to soar. Well in various commodities the price level that was registered during the previous Congress led UPA Government has not witnessed any change indicating that there is a wide differences between the ground realities and the one claimed by the Government. It is but natural that fares for buses, trucks, taxis and autos too may be hiked following sudden rise in the prices of petrol and diesel. This may further push up the rates of various commodities as the sellers would charge higher for the commodities that are transported from one state to the other by trucks.
But the Government, he aded by Narendra Moldi, has had a illustrous record as far as its foreign policy management is concerned.Though India has a full time Foreign Affairs Minister but prime Minister,Modi has outclassed his able colleague,Sushma Swaraj,by having travelled far and wide during the last one year. The latest three-nation tour has been quite rewarding in case China fulfills its commitment on resolving the border dispute through peaceful negotiations.Right from the day he was installed as Prime Minister,Modi has focused on promoting cordial ties with India's immediate neighbours. His visit to Japan, Germany, France, the USA and now China are sure to yield good dividends. Modi has announced that he wants to "act east" and not imitate the previous Congress led UPA Government . which simply believed in "seeing east."Modi is right in exploring the possibility for promoting cordial ties with various nations, especially with the developed nations because he knows that once these developed countries agree to invest in India it would allow Modi to fulfill his dream of "Make in India."In this connection he has signed scores of agreements with private firms in the US, China, Germany, France, Japan, Russia and others under which these foreign firms will invest in India, financially and technologically, so that India is able to register a phenomenal growth r ate through "Make in India."
Given that, there are unprecedented expectations that the new government will finally unburden the country's foreign policy from the ideological fixation of the Nehruvian era, re-orienting to meet the demands of new geopolitical realities. While it is too early to know precisely what the new foreign policy will be, a few signposts-the BJP's vision statement, Modi's own political beliefs, and some of his recent statements-offer clues. Modi's foreign policy is likely to be a mix of nationalist-led geopolitics and expedient geoe-conomics. These twin foci mean that democracy and human rights issues will become second-order issues. However, Modi may push international democracy more than the previous Congress-led government as part of his geopolitical agenda to extend Indian global power.
The nationalist in Modi would like to revive India's "civilizational role" and restore its ancient glory. To that end, India must assume a larger role in the shift of global power toward Asia. This can only be achieved on the basis of domestic strength. Modi's pre-election statements suggested he would eschew any exaggerated portrayal of India's power. As he said, "we have to put our own house in order so that the world is attracted to us." Hence Modi plans to enable India to register phenomenal growth rate in the sectors of Industry and agriculture which could allow it an opportunity to force China and Pakistan[ to develop cordial ties with New Delhi.Modi needs cooperation not only from the opposition parties but from the alliance partners if people want him to revolutionise country's economy and political setup.Already the opposition parties have ganged against the BJP led NDA Government preventing the Prime Minister from implementing various people friendly schemes.
